Workshop 1: Poetry Manuscript Review / Creating a Cohesive Collection

$150.00

2 60-minute sessions + 1 follow-up (via Zoom)

*Days & times are flexible and determined on an individual basis.*

Join WRJ editor in chief Aaron Lelito for an individualized workshop designed to build a full-length poetry collection or chapbook. Through a detailed review of both macro and micro elements of the selected poems, participants will explore methods for finding a cohesive flow from one piece to the next.

There’s nothing like a some one-on-one feedback to encourage that next creative step down the winding path to a finished collection. This workshop will focus on those very first steps toward creating a cohesive whole. Whether you are a new writer who is navigating the path to publication for the first time or an established writer simply looking for some new approaches, this workshop can help you take your existing work–the “big picture” concepts and themes as well as key details and phrases–and create a full-length book or chapbook.

Please e-mail us at wildroofjournal@gmail.com if you have questions about this workshop and to make sure it is a good fit for you before registering!

By joining this workshop, you will gain access to 2 60 minute sessions with guided feedback. In addition, you will have the opportunity for 1 follow-up session after the conclusion of the workshop. Days/times for meetings will be arranged on individual basis.

All sessions will be held via Zoom.

About the facilitator: Aaron Lelito has taught writing at the college level for over ten years. During that time, he has found that the genuine pursuit of written expression—whether in the form of experimental poetics or that pesky English 101 research essay—must begin with the curiosity to engage with ideas that might not actually work at first, as well as with the willingness to put linear decision-making on the side for a bit, allowing for something unexpected to appear. This type of curiosity and playfulness is most useful at the beginning stages of the writing process, where every idea has the potential to lead somewhere novel and problems can just as easily be seen as possibilities.

In addition, Aaron does freelance editing in a wide variety of contexts, from higher ed textbooks to writers seeking publication for the first time. Through these experiences, he has guided countless academic and creative writing projects to completion. Although the end goal of these projects can vary widely, his primary focus of workshopping in this context is to bring the writer’s unique vision into its fullest potential.

Aaron began Wild Roof Journal in 2020 to further engage with the creative community at large by establishing online galleries that promote works of remarkable insight, vision, and introspection.
