Welcome to the fifth issue of Wild Roof Journal

Welcome to another issue of Wild Roof Journal! If you are new to us, you picked an excellent edition to begin with. If you are a returning reader, I trust that you’ll find the visual and literary art included here continues the high standard set by our previous four issues. For the contributors of this issue, congratulations! As I have stated in previous issues, I am excited to bring in a new group of talented writers and artists into the Wild Roof community.

The main piece of news for this issue is that I have included an audio interview, shifting from the text-based interviews that appeared in all of the previous issues. In preparation for this issue, I was fortunate enough to have a conversation with Caroline Russell, a photographer who experiments with some unconventional techniques. Specifically, we talk a bit about working with chlorophyll prints, some of which are included in the artist feature. These photos are striking visually, and I found their aesthetic to be quite interesting, since the images play on the malleability, the perpetually changing nature of human memory. I enjoyed our conversation and plan to include a podcast-style interview such as this in each upcoming issue.

Lastly, I will recommend another excellent online publication—EcoTheo Review. I became aware of EcoTheo a few months ago, as I submitted artwork to their harvest-themed Fall issue. I was pleased to find that there are some parallels between their philosophy—“Enlivening conversations and commitments around ecology, spirituality, and art”—and that of Wild Roof Journal. You may consider giving it a read, or even submitting work to their upcoming issue.

As for the art and writing contained in this issue, I hope you find it entertaining, engaging, and inspirational!

Galleries

This issue is arranged into three “galleries,” a concept we’ve borrowed from the art world. Each gallery has a selection of various artwork–both visual and textual. There are some intentional connections between pieces placed next to each other–maybe some unintentional connections as well–and perhaps some points of contrast. Just like a collection in an art gallery, different styles, techniques, and subject matters are brought together, while still keeping enough space around each piece so that each one can be enjoyed fully on its own.

In addition to the gallery links here, there is a list of contributor names below. You may click on any of these names for a direct link to that artist’s work.
